Our colleague Theophile suports education and welfare projects in his ancestral town Samatite. Samatite is a very small village of 350 habitants (about 60 households) in the south west of Senegal. To be precise, the village is located in the community of Mlomp in the Oussouye province.
Getting to this remote village is quite an undertaken. By plane, from Dakar to Zuiginchor will take you after some brousse taxi approximately 5hrs. By night ferry, the trip will take you about 14hrs. The trip becomes a real adventure if you go by road, a bus will take you in no less then 115hrs (!) to the village, crossing of the Gambia river included.
Here in this very traditionnal and conservative village the people belong to the DIOLA ethnic religion. Theophile is trying to build an educational system for the local children. A small scaled initiative, nevertheless important for the development of the children, contains currently 3 classes for 98 children.
Contact Theophile to see what the community actually needs.
Back to school serves his purpose well in this specific case.
Educational material and schoolmaterial for the children are very welcome in this early stage of development of his project.
